Dr. Xiaoyu Lu is a computational biologist and bioinformatician in the Biomedical Data Research Lab at OHSU. His research combines statistical modeling, machine learning, and multi-omics analysis to study disease biology and develop interpretable approaches to biomedical research.
At OHSU, Dr. Lu is developing an evidence-guided precision nutrition framework that connects patient context with published research, real-world cohorts, and multi-omics data. His work examines disease-relevant pathways and evaluates evidence that could inform personalized dietary strategies, with initial applications in MASH and pancreatic cancer.
Before joining OHSU, Dr. Lu was a Scientist in Systems Biology and Statistical Learning at Bristol Myers Squibb, where he integrated patient-derived molecular data and perturbation results to support oncology target identification and biomarker research. During a co-op at Merck, he developed single-cell and spatial transcriptomics workflows to study cell states and tissue-specific molecular patterns. His doctoral research at Indiana University focused on statistical and machine-learning methods for transcriptomics analysis, including cell-type deconvolution and cancer metastasis prediction.
